M-SParc announce new director following successful opening

M-SParc, Wales’ first dedicated Science Park, opened its doors on St David’s day on time and within budget. The first ever event was held in the building on Monday in partnership with Google with over 80 attendees from businesses from across Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy.

M-SParc is also pleased to announce a new Managing Director, Mr. Pryderi ap Rhisiart who will begin in May following Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones’ retirement that was announced last year.

Mr. ap Rhisiart, of Pen Llyn, has been working as the Project Manager for M-SParc, the £20m facility, part funded by European Regional Development Funding through the Welsh Government, for the past 4 years. He played a key role in bringing the project to completion within the time and budget constraints.

Mr. ap Rhisiart will be working closely with Mr. Jones over the coming months in order to ensure a seamless handover. Mr. Jones said “I was very pleased to hear that Pryderi has been appointed. He has been part of the team for over 4 years, and having this continuity is very important for the project. Pryderi’s appointment opens a new and exciting chapter for M-SParc. He has shown commitment to the project from day one, and his passion for our ethos of stimulating the region’s economy means he is always ready to go above and beyond in his role. I look forward to seeing the Park develop, and will be staying on the board of directors, and will complete a few outstanding projects.

“It’s crucial that we ensure that this facility provides an opportunity for the young people of the region to be able to stay here and work, should they want to do so” he added.

The University’s Vice Chancellor said “We’re pleased with this announcement of a new Director, one whom is already well connected in the region and has built a strong relationship with the University over the past years. It is important that there is no disruption to the operation of M-SParc during this handover period, and both Mr. Jones and Mr. ap Rhisiart are already working closely to ensure things continue to run smoothly and successfully.”

Mr. ap Rhisiart takes over on the 1st May and Mr Jones retires on the 18th May after a handover period.

M-SParc aims to stimulate the region’s economy, helping companies grow and provide employment for the region. The building boasts laboratory, office, and clean workshop space, created with input from companies of all sizes who work in the science and technology sectors with a focus on Low Carbon. Businesses and projects who develop their own technologies, processes and science based endeavours are welcome. “We want to attract the brightest and the best from the region” said Pryderi ap Rhisiart

In addition to tenant space, this incredible new building offers meeting rooms, and a fantastic boardroom built to impress, which will be available for any business or company in the area to book. The Tanio cafe and working area has Wi-Fi and informal meeting spaces, to encourage young people and workers from the region to sit with a coffee and take advantage of the inspiring atmosphere. Desks within a hot desking office are also available for renting for short periods of time, starting from one day up to a month.
